Dermot Heslin

About me

My name is Dermot Heslin and I am an accredited psychotherapist, working in Dublin city and online. My approach is integrative and humanistic, meaning that I combine learning from different schools of psychotherapy to best meet the needs of each person.

I see psychotherapy as being a collaboration between therapist and client. My role is to support you as we explore together the issues you are facing. I aim to create a welcoming environment, where you will feel safe and comfortable. Each week, you will have the opportunity to share your thoughts and feelings, and to be heard in a non-judgemental way.

I firmly believe that each of us has the capacity to change and to grow. However, during difficult times, we often create beliefs and patterns which hold us back. Psychotherapy gives an opportunity to develop self-awareness, to reflect on what we want in life, and to find new ways to cope and to thrive.

My background is in software development, and I worked for several years in the financial sector. I moved from software to the not-for-profit sector, where I supported people in developing leadership skills through volunteering. It was from here that I became interested in counselling and psychotherapy, as I saw people's ability to grow during periods of intense challenge, provided they had the right kind of support.

I hold a Higher Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy, and a Masters in Psychotherapy.
